TIP #1: Swing Your Arms Forcefully
Most trainers and players reject this technique claiming that it doesn’t work. But the truth is that it can account for more than 15% of a vertical lift. Next time you jump, focus on forcefully swinging your arms up. Time this action with the jump and you will be quite surprised with the results.
TIP #2: Enhance Your Inner Abdominal Strength
Along with the rectus-abs, give some attention to the transverse abdominal wall. This plays a huge role in every power movement required to jump higher. In order to increase its strength, do this small exercise: Take a long breath and think of sucking in your spine. Hold this position for around 20 seconds and then repeat. If you do this at least 3 to 4 times a week, you will soon see abdominal strength enhanced.
TIP #3: Employ Weight Loading
Weight Loading is another great tip to help you jump higher in basketball. You simply trick your nervous system by loading some weight on your body while jumping so that the nervous system adds more motor units to aid the muscles in the jumping process. The results begin to show when you start jumping without extra weights as all of the additional strength generated by the body, which was previously wasted in the extra weight, now helps to leap higher. TIP #4: Imagine that Jump
This tip often results in sudden vertical jump increase. First test how much you can initially jump by marking the backboard. Now simply shut your eyes and visualize yourself exploding to the highest jump that you have ever planned to make; Imagine all of your muscles and legs becoming stronger than ever and think about being very light and loose. After you have imagined it all in your mind, take a final mental note of your success and then jump. Many people notice a tremendous change in their jumps and do actually leap higher after employing this imagination trick.
